Unity Flooring & Interiors is Southwest Florida's trusted hardwood flooring contractor, serving homeowners throughout Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Naples, Bonita Springs, Estero, Lehigh Acres, and surrounding communities in Lee and Collier counties. We install solid hardwood, engineered hardwood, and prefinished wood floors — and offer complete sanding, refinishing, staining, and repair services for existing hardwood throughout SWFL.
This is the most common question we get from Florida homeowners — and the answer matters. Solid hardwood is milled from a single piece of wood. It's beautiful, can be refinished many times, and lasts generations — but it's sensitive to moisture and humidity. In Southwest Florida's climate, solid hardwood requires a stable, climate-controlled environment and is generally not recommended for installation directly over concrete slabs.
Engineered hardwood is constructed with a real wood veneer over a cross-ply plywood or HDF core. This construction makes it significantly more dimensionally stable in humidity — meaning it's far less likely to cup, warp, or gap in Florida's conditions. Engineered hardwood can be installed over concrete slabs, making it the preferred choice for most SWFL homes with slab foundations. It can still be refinished 1–3 times depending on veneer thickness, and the quality of today's engineered hardwood is virtually indistinguishable from solid.
Our team will assess your specific home, subfloor type, and humidity levels during your free consultation and make an honest recommendation on which product is right for your project.
Fort Myers is one of our most active hardwood installation markets. We install hardwood floors throughout Fort Myers neighborhoods including Gateway, Pelican Preserve, Colonial Country Club, Reflection Isles, and Daniel's Park. Whether you're renovating a single room or replacing flooring throughout an entire home, our Fort Myers hardwood team delivers on time and on budget.
Cape Coral's homes range from 1970s waterfront properties to modern new construction — and we've installed hardwood in all of them. We work throughout all quadrants of Cape Coral and understand the unique subfloor and moisture considerations that come with canal-front and waterfront properties. Engineered hardwood is particularly popular in Cape Coral for its ability to handle the humidity that comes with waterfront living.
If your existing hardwood floors are looking dull, scratched, or dated, refinishing is often a fraction of the cost of replacement — and the results can be stunning. Our refinishing process includes thorough sanding to bare wood, custom stain selection, and multiple coats of premium finish. We offer dustless sanding systems to minimize disruption to your home, and we can match existing colors or completely transform the look of your space with a new stain.
We refinish hardwood floors throughout Fort Myers, Cape Coral, Naples, Bonita Springs, and Estero — including older homes with original hardwood that hasn't been touched in decades. There's often a beautiful floor hiding under old finishes or carpet.
How much does hardwood floor installation cost in Fort Myers? Hardwood installation costs typically range from $8–$16 per square foot installed, depending on species, grade, and subfloor conditions. Engineered hardwood is generally on the lower end; exotic solid hardwood species run higher. We provide free, detailed written estimates.
Can hardwood be installed over a concrete slab in Florida? Engineered hardwood can be installed over concrete using a glue-down or floating method. Solid hardwood is generally not recommended over concrete slabs in Florida due to moisture concerns. We'll assess your slab and moisture levels before making a recommendation.
How long does hardwood installation take? Most single-room installations take 1–2 days. Whole-home installations typically take 3–6 days depending on size and complexity. Refinishing a room usually takes 2–3 days including dry time between coats.
Do you carry the wood in stock or do we need to order? We work with several local distributors and can source most species and products quickly. We'll present samples and options during your consultation and help you select the right product for your home and budget.
